Feast of the Week

Monday 4th May: The English Martyrs

The English Martyrs: on this day in 1535 there died at Tyburn three Carthusian monks, the first of many martyrs. Of these martyrs, forty-two have been canonised and a further 242 declared blessed, but the number of those who died on the scaffold, perished in prison, or suffered harsh persecution for their faith in the course of a century and a half cannot now be reckoned. They came from every walk of life; there are among them rich and poor, married and single, women and men. They are remembered for the example they gave of constancy in their faith, and courage in the face of persecution.

Pray for the Sick and Housebound and those who are known to you. May the Good Lord strengthen and comfort them. Pray also for all who care for the sick.

Grant eternal rest to those who have died recently.

Bridget Gillespie, Martin McGarrigle

Let your face shine upon those whose anniversaries are at this time. Margaret Coyle, Joan Dunne

Birthday Remembrance: Joseph Blain (4th)

It is an ecumenical service with both Bishop John Arnold and the Bishop of Manchester, David Walker attending. It is hoped the service will be of use to those who are bereaved, for survivors, for patients and family, for doctors and nurses, anyone touched by cancer. THINKING OF FOSTERING?

Do you have room in your heart and home for a foster child?

Across Manchester foster carers play a vital yet often unseen role providing a stable family life for children who cannot live with their parents. Most of them will have experienced disruption to their lives. Manchester City Council particularly needs foster carers for babies and toddlers, teenagers, siblings and for dual heritage and minority ethnic children. If you think you could provide a safe stable and loving home please contact 0800 988 8931 for an informal chat.
