The Word This Week

Divine providence is a wonderful thing: God is so generous with his creation (it is human greed that denies some their rightful share). The Kingdom of God is the time and place when this vision will be fully realised, when all who wish may ‘come to the water’, when all who are hungry may ‘eat as much as they want’, when what is left over is still enough for all the twelve tribes of Israel. Our contemplation of the kingdom of God, through the parables and miracles of Jesus, should stir us up to build this kingdom here and now. The miracle of Divine providence is allowed to work when human greed and selfishness give way to the power of the Spirit working within us, and we share all we have with those in need. Our hearts are set on the kingdom of God, where there is corn and wine and milk in abundance.

PARISH NOMINATIONS

We are proposing to establish a Management Committee for St. Mary’s Parish Centre commencing in September this year.  Member Guidelines for Parish Committees are:

  • Must comply with and act consistently in accordance with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Must be a member of the parish for at least 1 year.
  • Must be an active, contributing member of the parish who is Baptised and Confirmed.

All members of the Management Committee shall be parishioners of St. Mary’s. We are seeking parishioners from 2 categories:

  • Parishioners who are members of a Regular User Group in St. Mary’s Parish Centre. We are looking for 4 nominees from 4 different regular user groups.
  • Parishioners who are NOT members of a Regular User Group in St. Mary’s Parish Centre.

We are looking for 4 nominees from each of the above categories to become a member of the Management Committee. Any parishioner who would like to put their names forward to be a member please complete the relevant Parish Nomination Form which can be found on the table in the church porch. Returned forms must be put in an envelope marked ‘PARISH NOMINATION’ and posted to St. Mary’s Presbytery at the address above. Closing date for receiving nominations is Sunday, 24th August 2014.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations and Best Wishes to David Burge and Mairéad Rodden who were married in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Desertegney, Co. Donegal last Friday, 25th July. Our prayers and good wishes are with them.

SHOCK AND HORROR

We were rightly shocked and horrified when the Malaysian airliner was blown out of the sky with the loss of so many innocent lives, whoever was responsible for this dastardly action has a lot to live with. Does the carnage in the Gaza strip evoke the same horror in the corridors of power in the Pentagon and Whitehall? Are our armies likely to be deployed with the same alacrity against the perpetrators of these crimes against humanity as they were in other like situations? Or does the old adage of the ‘Golden Rule’ – “him with the gold makes the rules” apply when it is our ‘friends’ who are the culprits. Blessed are the peacemakers.
