Identifying with the more senior members of our society, he says “The whole Church is close to you – to us – and cares about you, loves you and does not want to leave you alone!”

COVID RESTRICTIONS: Most of our Diocese is in a high infection region. In particular Levenshulme and Longsight have a very high transmission of the virus. Bishop John has suggested that we change very little in our churches for the time being. The pandemic is far from over. Infections are increasing daily with predictions of another Lockdown with viral variants at work, causing a distressing loss of life.
You will notice the tape has gone from most of the benches, and sanitising of the benches after each Mass is no longer required. However, wearing face masks, sanitising hands on entering and leaving the church would seem to be very sensible measures for all of us to continue to take. We are still required to sign in with name and phone number for test, track and trace purposes. Holy Communion will continue to be under one kind and received in the hand. Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals no longer have a restriction on the number of people who can attend. The Offertory collection can now take place at the Sunday Masses. Stewards will welcome everyone as they come into Church, and hand out Mass sheets and newsletters.
My thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to protect not only themselves, but also everyone in our community by following the restrictions for so long. I ask that we continue with the use of face masks and sanitisers by everyone, to help protect all of us from this deadly virus. (Fr. Dever)

SUNDAY OBLIGATIONS: Whilst Sunday Obligations are still not imposed, if you are still feeling nervous about coming back to church, why not attend one of the weekday Masses which are not as busy as the weekend Masses. We also offer areas of the church where social distancing continues to be mandatory. We look forward to welcoming you all back very soon.

VACCINATIONS: Bishop John is urging all adults, who are able to do so, to be vaccinated. Pope Francis has reminded people of the duty to be vaccinated if they are able. The Church is clear that all Catholics can take any of the vaccines on offer with a clear conscience. Even if you are at a low risk of becoming seriously ill, being vaccinated will lower the risk of transmitting the virus to somebody else who might then have a severe reaction or even die. It is particularly important that those in our parishes, clergy and lay-people who visit those who are housebound or otherwise vulnerable are vaccinated.

BACK TO NORMAL PREPARATIONS: As we are no longer required to clean the church after each service, we are now able to revert to the weekly cleaning of the church. If you were on the team before the pandemic and would like to take up the reins again then please come along on a Tuesday after Mass. Many thanks to our cleaners who have retired from this task, your help has been much appreciated. Offertory Collectors are also now required for the Sunday Masses. New volunteers are welcome to join either of the teams.
