PARISH MASS OF REMEMBRANCE: Our parish will celebrate a special Mass of Remembrance on Saturday, 6th November at 11am in St. Mary’s Church. During this very special parish celebration we prayerfully remember all our deceased parishioners and all whose funerals were celebrated in St. Mary’s and St. Richard’s during the past twelve months. (From November 2020 to October 2021). After the Mass light refreshments will be served in St. Mary’s Parish Centre. Please join us as we pray for all those in our families and parish community who have died.

TODAY IS WORLD MISSION SUNDAY: It supports missionaries who work alongside communities that are poor or in need, regardless of their background or belief. By supporting Missio, the Pope’s charity for world mission, you will help missionaries like Sister Veronica build peace in Nigeria and share the love of Christ with those most in need. Please pray for the mission of the Church throughout the world and give what you can to this very important collection which will sustain the future of our Church. Please call 020 7821 9755 (office hrs.) or visit Missio’s website to give a single gift, set up a Direct Debit and Gift Aid your donation, if possible: missio.org.uk

We also devote the month of November to remembering all who have died. A box will be available at the back of St. Mary’s Church for you to place the names of your loved ones in. It will be brought up with the offertory gifts on Sundays, and all whose names are in it will be remembered throughout the month of November.

MASS FOR THE PANDEMIC: Throughout November, Catholic dioceses around the country will celebrate a Mass for the Pandemic. This service will take place in Salford Cathedral at 11am on Sunday 7th November. The Mass is an opportunity to remember those we have lost and the hardships faced during the pandemic. It is also a time to give thanks for the compassion and commitment of our healthcare workers.

SISTER LUCY RETIRES FROM CARITAS CORNERSTONE AFTER 20 YEARS’ SERVICE: An inspirational nun who has devoted a lifetime of service to our community is stepping down from her active role helping people in our diocese who are homeless, isolated, or seeking asylum. Now in her eighties, Sr. Lucy first began working at Cornerstone in 2002 after “retiring” from her previous role working with children. In celebration and thanksgiving for all staff and volunteers, Caritas Salford will be holding their first Mass since the pandemic on Saturday 27th November. UN CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE (COP26): The UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow from 31st October to 12th November 2021. ‘COP’ means ‘conference of parties’. Leaders from 197 countries, including Pope Francis, who have signed up to the UN’s climate change treaty, will travel to Glasgow to take part in the conference. This will be the largest gathering of world leaders ever to take place on British soil. The focus of the conference will be how to keep temperature rises below 1.5C. If the world warms more than this threshold, millions more people in the most vulnerable communities around the globe will suffer from devastating droughts, storms, floods and other impacts of climate change. Governments will be obliged to set out more ambitious goals for ending their contribution to climate change under the Paris Agreement (2015).CAFOD invite us to sign a petition urging the Prime Minister to make sure the communities hardest hit by the climate emergency are listened to at COP26. You can sign the petition online at: https://e-activist.com/page/73304/petition/1
