REFLECTION: Today we celebrate the highpoint of the Christian calendar, Easter. The gospel tells us that Mary Magdalen is the first witness to the Resurrection. ‘It was still dark…’ when Mary went to the tomb but it was also the ‘first day of the week’, a new beginning. We might recall those situations in our lives which seemed so dark, where we felt that there was no light at the end of the tunnel. Let the stone and linen wrappings in this text today represent all that keeps us from being free; all that keeps us captive, emotionally, physically, spiritually, in our broken relationships and struggling communities. However big that stone appears to be, our faith in the resurrection of Jesus tells us that this stone can be moved. The Easter gospel shows us that these situations can be transformed, even though it is often a painful journey.

WE WELCOME TO OUR COMMUNITY OF BELIEVERS Olubukola Sokunbi into full communion with the Catholic Church. Olubukola has been in the Journey in Faith programme since last October. Please pray that her journey may continue.

SUPPORT FOR YOUR PARISH: GIFT AID OPTION: As a member of this parish, if you pay tax on income – be it on wages, salaries, pensions or dividends on investments – it is easy, to increase the value of your weekly parish donation/contribution at no additional cost to yourself. The parish can reclaim an additional 25% of your donation from the Inland Revenue. All that is required is that you sign a Gift Aid Declaration Form, and that you make your donations in the weekly envelopes or via a Standing Order. If you have not yet signed up for the Gift Aid option please will you consider opting in to the scheme now? All you have to do to begin the process is to contact Richard Molloy (St. Mary’s) on 07791 925 190 and Fr. Dever (St. Richard’s) on 224 1498. Members already in the scheme are asked to update any changes to addresses or tax situation, in order that accurate records are kept up to date.

OFFERTORY COUNTERS REQUIRED: St. Mary’s Church are in need of more Offertory Counters on Sunday’s. Collection counters are assigned in teams of 3 or 4 persons and are responsible for counting the weekend offerings. Counters are scheduled approximately once every four weeks. Time commitment is approximately 1.1/2 hours following the 11:00 a.m. Mass. At the moment we have 4 teams of counters, with 2 of the teams with only 2 people in them. Teams meet in the Meeting Room of the Presbytery. Please contact Richard Malloy (Gift Aid Coordinator) on 07791 925 190 for details.

Items for the newsletter including Mass Intentions can be left at the Parish Office Tel. 0161 248 8836 or emailed to info@stmaryslevenshulme.co.uk by Thursday midday. The weekend newsletter is published on Friday mornings!
