COMMUNION REFLECTION: A soldier, recuperating from a war injury, looks out of the hospital window.
It was springtime and the trees and shrubs were filling up with leaves and blossoms. He reflected on their simple beauty. As he looked at them he noticed how the birds of every description moved freely in and out amongst them – robins, sparrows, wrens, blackbirds, thrushes and wagtails. Here they held their various branch meetings. They shared the shelter and the fruit, and they still managed to live at peace with one another. From here their music went forth to fill the world with its joyous sound. If they can do this, why can’t we?
Suddenly the words of Christ came alive for him: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a tree in whose branches all the birds of the sky can find a home”. And a deep longing filled his soul. He longed to belong to such a Kingdom, to open his arms and embrace all his brothers and sisters. And the bitterness caused by his injury suddenly flowed away from him, and he was healed and at peace with himself and the world.
DID YOU TAKE COMMUNION TO SOMEONE AT HOME BEFORE THE LOCKDOWN? If so we are now allowed to visit people at home for the giving of Holy Communion, though only ONE visit per day. Please speak to Fr. Dever if you’d like to resume visits. We can then share with you the new guidelines that are set by these visits.
CALLING GRANDPARENTS: Pope Francis has announced the first new World Day for Grandparents & the Elderly will be celebrated on Sunday, July 25th. The Catholic Grandparents Association supports grandparents doing ‘the very best we can for our children and grandchildren.’ ‘Grandparents’ … vital contribution to the family, the Church and society was never as important as now. … We can never fail so long as we keep on doing what we are doing – praying, showing the way and passing on our Faith’. Visit their site for more information on parish resources.
WHEN WILL THE PARISH CENTRE BE OPEN AGAIN? We are awaiting new guidelines after the proposed date of 21st June after which we will need to take risk assessments for each group.
