Let your face shine upon those whose anniversaries are at this time. John Brady, Michael Jordan, Doyle Family, Hannah Doherty, Joe Kennedy.

WELCOME into the family of the Church to Tshibema Mwetshono Yambissa, Eleanor Nicole Diette and Arianna Sophia Diac who were baptised at St. Mary’s this weekend. Our prayers and good wishes go with them and their families.

This Sunday is called Gaudete Sunday Rejoice Sunday. This comes from the readings we hear today, and it underlines an important point. In the Gospel, we hear John the Baptist telling different groups what to do – they must repent, and change their lives. We might think of this as a rather joyless thing – something which is hard and unrewarding. The message of this Sunday is that repentance and changing our lives to welcome Jesus is something richly joyful. When we are planning to welcome anyone we love to our homes, we set about cleaning and preparing for their visit with enthusiasm – nothing is too much trouble for someone we care for greatly. Even scrubbing the bath or polishing the furniture can be a happy and joyful thing! The message of this Sunday is that preparing to welcome the Lord – even though it may involve hard work – is something utterly joyful, because of our love for Him, and His love for us.

ST. MARY’S CAROL SERVICE: The Key Stage 2 children from St. Mary’s School invite you all to join them in a Carol Service in church next Tuesday, 15th December at 6.30pm. Come along for a magical evening of carols to start the festive season in style!

ST. MARY’S CHRISTMAS FAIR: Many thanks to all who supported the event last Sunday. These are not easy times for anyone, but the generosity of all surrounding this ‘fundraiser’ was commendable. A special word of thanks to all who prepared the hall and transformed it into a fairground. The event raised £1,475.38p, a breakdown of the money raised can be found on the noticeboard in the church porch together with a list of the prize winners. Well done to everyone.

ST. MARY’S APF/MILL PROMOTERS: If possible, could the promoters who have not yet returned money collected from the red mission boxes please do so by the end of next week to Wyn O’Connor. Any money received after then will not be included in this year’s total for St. Mary’s. Thank you.
